Mango was a former breeder bird for his first three years of life before he came to live with me.
When I first got him, his feathering was beautiful, but he was terrified of hands. He would very cautiously take treats eventually, but any hand movement would send him flying! Literally!
I have now had Mango for about 9 months, and although he has started to feather pick his chest, his confidence level and trust of humans has increased greatly.
Mango now will step up onto my hand to be curried from place to place, and regularly goes to work with me where he receives socialization from many different people.
Mango will not step up out of his "home cage", however; he will step up out of his cage at work.
Mango can either be toweled, or let out of his cage and then presented with a hand or a towel, at which point he will fly to the ground, and look to me to pick him up.
The re-homing process will be time consuming, since Mango is slow to trust new people, and I am not in an immediate need to re-home him. He is a sweet bird who with time and the right owner may even learn to love cuddles one day.
Please inquire if you have had experience with parrots, or have an aviary situation where Mango could be flighted and live with other conures (as he did before he lived with me).
If you wish to continue with his taming and make him more of a companion, please do not inquire if you have more than two birds already.
